Update On Josiah: December 19th

Here is an update on Josiah as of Sunday, December 19th at 4 PM:

Josiah was pretty sad to see his mom leave today.  They had a great night together, in fact, he always talks about how they party when she is here.  She was able to get him to stay up until 9:30 PM, which is latest he has been up in weeks.  I asked him how, and he said, “She just kept talking dad.  She wouldn’t stop.”  I am not gonna touch that one!

Here are some more highlights from the day:

  • He spent some time today counting money and making change.  He actually did very well with that; in fact, he did not miss one.  He pretended he was at Starbucks and had a lot of fun with it.
  • He also did some more walking without holding on to a rail. I love seeing this!
  • Today is the first day that he has been able to watch football.  He has been looking forward to this all week!  He turned it on, and within 15 minutes was sound asleep!
  • The last two mornings, he has totally dressed and groomed himself!  He is using his left side so much more now.  You can see the strength returning each day!  Such an answer to prayer!
  • He has started getting on facebook on our phones for a few minutes at a time.  He enjoys it, but gets very emotional about everyone’s kind comments.

Here are some specific prayer requests you can remember for us:

  • Pray for all the details to be worked out for this next week during the holiday.  I would love to be able to stay at the Inn here on the property (I stayed in it last night.  It is such a nice place with lots of room!).  We have just a few things to fall in place and all will be good.  Hopefully Jennifer can find time to get the last of the Christmas shopping done this week as well.
  • Pray for the testing that needs to be done in the right side of his face. I would like this to be done sometime on Monday if possible.
  • We heard another story of a little 5-year-old girl that is up here.  She was in a car accident with her mother and she suffered a brain injury.  Her mother, who was also expecting another child, did not make it.  Her father is able to be here on weekends only due to work, so she is here during the week by herself. That is a lot for a little girl to process.  Please pray for little Alex.
  • Pray for family as they travel this week.  Not only Jen and the kids, but for Jordan and her family as they come in from Wichita.

Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

Gonna change things up a bit here and post the best links of the week on Thursday rather than Friday. Here are some great posts from this last week!  Enjoy!

  • Perry Noble encourages all those in full time ministry (and really anyone who has EVER made mistakes in their past) with this post called “Don’t Allow Past Mistakes To Rob You Of An Amazing Future.”  This reminded me of a post I need to write… soon!
  • Donald Miller post on “How To Guide A Team Through Conflict.”  Really an amazing post on going through conflict.  Must. Read.This.
  • Many church leaders I know spend a lot of time criticizing other church leaders because of a different direction and style of ministry (A colossal waste of time by the way!).   They are uncomfortable with change (Or do not have the guts to make the changes) and it is easier to criticize than create, so that is what they do.  Seth Godin‘s post, “Do You Need A Permit, ” addresses criticizing visionaries and those that are different than we are.  We should celebrate, not criticize those that can do what we can and will not do to reach people.  Awesome post!
  • We all need more margin in life.  You know, the space where there is nothing.  We fill that space with stuff, but in reality, that margin is what helps us to do ministry.  Tim Stevens has some great words on this in his post, “A Space For Margin.”

  • Jonathan Acuff posted one of the most important posts I have read in quite some time titled “Forgetting 1 Geography Lesson.”  Read this post, if it is the only one you read this week.
  • “Get More People To Do It” is an excellent post by Tony Morgan on getting people involved in taking their next steps.  Awesome, awesome stuff!
  • Perry Noble writes about “Why Some Churches Struggle With Money.” Great insight in this post.
  • Having the right people in the right spot is important. Training them right is also important. Mark Waltz speaks to this end in his post “Get The Right People.  Train Them Right.”
  • 4% is a moving post by Mark Beeson.  It is so important to be asking the right questions!

Been a couple of weeks since I posted some links from great leaders.  Take a few minutes and read a few of these posts.  I know they will add value to your ministry and life.  Hope you all have a great weekend!

  • Good ideas take time to develop, and sometimes that means saying “no” now so you can do it right.  Carlos Whittaker talks about this in his post “Good Ideas Deserve You Saying NO To Your Pastor.”  That is hard to do, especially if you are a people-pleaser by nature (as I am).  Sometimes, being able to “pull it off” is not the best road to take.  Most folks know when something needed more time.  And God deserves that from us!
  • Mark Beeson talks about the choices, actions and outcomes and what the Bible says about how all three are related in his post titled, “Watching My Son Fish Got Me Thinking.”
  • Loved the post by Pete Wilson, who actually quoted another post from Keven DeYoung.  The last line is SO true, yet so opposite of what many people want to hear as they strive for success in ministry.  Here it is: “Daily discipleship is not a new revolution each morning or an agent of global transformation every evening; it’s a long obedience in the same direction.” Take time to read the post titled “Plodding Visionaries” at Pete’s site.
  • Seth Godin has so many good posts!  Just take time to read “Exploration and the Risk of Failure” and “Avoiding Momentum.”  Both are great reads, and both tackle an issue many church leaders struggle with: making changes.
  • Tony Morgan didn’t know he was writing a blog post for me on my birthday on July 30th, but he wrote one just for me on something I struggle with all the time.  Read his post “Are You Addicted to People Pleasing.”  And I hope you are pleased with it.
