Worship Confessional: April 12, 2009 – Easter Edition
Easter is likely my favorite day to be in church! I love seeing the place packed out, and Easter is just one of those days that packs the church out without a lot of advertising or hoopla. There we so many people walked through our doors today that needed to know that they matter to God. What a responsibility we had to show them that today (and every Sunday).
We had our normal two service times today at 9AM and 10:30AM. Both were very well attended (909 total for today). Due to the time constraints that we have with the first service, we always have a little less singing in it. So the second set that we did today was only done in the second service.
We had an unusual occurrence in the middle of our second service (during the sermon) when one of our senior saints fell over with a heart attack. Several of our people are in the medical field, and they sprang right into action. According to one of them, they actually lost him at one point, but brought him back with CPR. Can’t say I ever have had that happen before! He was taken to the hospital in ambulance, and it looks as if he is gong to be fine. Praise God! Not sure there is a better illustration in the middle of a sermon on the resurrection!
Anyways, everything else really went just as planned. The band, vocals and choir all sounded fantastic! Here is the set list:
Video – 3 days later (Sermon Spice)
Choir – “My Savior Lives” (Still Amazed Live Choral Book)
- My Redeemer Lives – Morgan
- At The Cross – Morgan/Zschech
Video – That’s My King (A classic!)
Message – Our Pastor Spoke on the Emmaus Road appearance of Jesus. Great message, even though it got interrupted in the second service!
Response Time – After the medical emergency, we just did an in your seat time of response. Certainly a little awkward to get back into the service.
- Mighty To Save – Morgan/Fielding
- into You Are Here (The Same Power) – Pankratz/George
- back into Mighty To Save
- A New Hallelujah – Smith/Smith/Baloche (This is a favorite closing song for our church)
Choir – Holy Is Your Name (Still Amazed Live Choral Book)
I am already hearing great things from churches all over America about the results from Easter! God is moving in His Church!
One question: Why shouldn’t it be this exciting every week!

We had the same kind of thing happen earlier this year during the sermon with a seasoned saint going down. One of the guys on the worship team did cpr with his mother (also on the team)assisting (both are trained nurses). He brought her back and she was present this morning worshipping with us. God is good! Glad to hear everything worked out for you too.

Wow! That’s an Easter you guys won’t be forgetting soon. And yeah, it should be at least this exciting every week, every day!

We did “At the Cross” today also! We introduced it for the first time today. It was very well recieved. It will definitely make its way into our regular rotation.

Jason-congrats on being #1 at the Confessional today
You certainly had an eventful day. I’ll have to check out those songs from the collection you did.

I too ask myself why it can’t be like this every week? It should be!

The Same Power is such a great song. Glad to hear everything worked out w/ that unfortunate event
Conner
Oooooo….loving the Mighty to Save into That Same Power!! I’m going to have to try it out!

Conner, it was our first time doing these two together (first time doing “The Same Power” as well). I got the idea from the setlist group last week and added it for our service. Was awesome!
Janaki
I love all the songs you did!

Agreed. Every Sunday (or day we come together in worship) should be in awe, should be that heart-pounding, soul-bursting, tingle-from-your-head-to-your-toes kind of experience. Confession: I’m caught between worshiping in my own spiritual expressiveness and submitting to the reality of the lack luster worshipers around me. My heart wants to go all out, but what i feel doesn’t always reflect what i see around me. How do we, as a church, create an environment that will stir a more passionate worship in our members? How can i worship with others without interpreting their “lack” as boredom? Anyone else feel this way?!?
Jason Petermann
Chelle,
I really think that all we can do is be passionate and authentic worshipers ourselves and leave the rest up to God and His Spirit to move in people. I heard a great statement while at Granger Community Church last month, “As leaders, we are responsible TO people. We are not responsible FOR people.” That is liberating, because it means we are responsible to create and atmosphere where they can worship, but we are not responsible for them to actually worship.
