New Year Brings A Change In Ministry

This morning our Pastor announced to the church that the financial situation at the church has necessitated some major changes for the coming year.  We have had many families lose their jobs this year, and with that the offerings have also suffered.  With that news, it was then announced that two of the full-time staff pastors would be leaving to find new positions.  I am one of those.

We have been here in Wichita for right at a year and a half.  We have loved the opportunity that we have had to be involved at Glenville, and have learned a lot in the time we have been here.  The people love God and love others.  I would have to say this church is a great example of what a grace-filled church is all about, as they are so very accepting of people.  The staff has also been a blast to work with.  We will miss everyone dearly.  This has been a great experience for us.

Our next steps do not simply include a change of churches to serve in.  After a long time of prayer and seeking counsel, I feel that God is moving me into another direction in ministry as well.  I love music, that will never change, but that season of ministry is coming to a close.  I will be seeking a church in which to serve as their Lead Pastor, or some other Administrative/Executive Pastor role.

As I said, we will miss the people that we are currently serving along side with.  It is never easy to move on. But we are excited to see what God is going to do with us in the future.  I love what Job said in Job 23:13-14:

“But he alone is God, and who can oppose him? God does as he pleases, and he will do exactly what he intends with me.”

We covet your prayers for our family as we take our next steps.  We hold on to the knowledge that God knows what He is doing with us.  We just want to hold on and go for the ride!

A Little Winter Fun

Two of my girls decided to go out and have a little fun in the snow (for me snow and fun do not go together!) They thought that our lab Riley must have been a sled dog in a former life as she pulled them along…

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we did not send out Christmas Cards this year.  We will be sending out a New Year’s letter though, so if we are on your list, please don’t delete us! We will be sending something, just a little late!  For now, know that we love you all and we hope you have a very Merry and Christ-Centered Christmas!

PS. Don’t read in to that, Jennifer is NOT pregnant!  ;-P

I enjoy this time of year more than any other time.  I love the holidays, and really enjoy the extra time I get to spend with my family. Thanksgiving is a day that really should be a reminder of how we are to live each and every day of our life. With thanks! We take so many things for granted on a daily basis. Sometimes there are reminders that we do this: We lose our job, a family member dies, a close friend moves away, the money runs out and we buy food according to necessity and not by preference of taste and desire.  When these things happen to us or someone we are close to, we all of a sudden are reminded that we are one of the lucky ones… better yet, we are one of the blessed ones.

Here is a quick 5 things that I am blessed with and thankful for this day:

  1. A God that desires a relationship on a day by day, moment by moment basis. His love and forgiveness drives me to love others even when it is hard to do.
  2. A family that loves me (or at least they say they do!) even though I make mistakes (a lot). The older I get, the more I love and appreciate them.
  3. A wife that I adore! I know, she is family and belongs in #2, but she deserves a special mention all to herself.  She is the most important thing in my life (outside of God Himself).  Marrying her was certainly a good move on my part!
  4. A church to serve in. I cannot imagine doing anything else but serving in a local church. Seeing people takes steps towards Christ is rewarding in and of itself!
  5. Food and football!  How can I not say that on Thanksgiving day!

Make Thanksgiving a way of living!  Make it ThanksLiving!  We are so blessed!

Better With Age! Happy Birthday Jennifer!

Today is my wife’s birthday… she is 35… again… (not really, but I am NOT going to say how old she is today… but it rhymes with 40!)  She is more beautiful than the day I married her.  She just gets better as the years go by!  I love you Jennifer! Cannot wait to post the same thing when we are 80!

Caption Please…

I took this at Jaidyn’s birthday party the other day.  My baby is now 4 years old!  What do you think would be a good caption for this?

20 years! Wow! It is amazing…

…that she has stuck with me that long! 20 years ago today I married my best friend. She has been the joy of my life and has treated me far better than I deserve. 20 years! Wow, did I get lucky!

Happy Valentine's Day To My Valentine!

jen

Today is Valentine’s Day.  I woke up with the flu, so that kind of sucks!  I am glad that my valentine and I went out to celebrate yesterday.  (You kind of have to re-arrange things when you have 5 kids!)

She is the most important person in this world to me.  She loves Jesus.  She loves our children.  She has stuck by me for nearly 20 years, even when it was not always fun.  I love her so much more now than I could have ever imagined that I would.  My life with her just gets better, and she is responsible for that.

Thank you Jennifer for loving me… even when I have the flu!
